We Love to Run!

Thursday's Six!

Team Legacy put in 6 miles on Thursday!  Whohoo!  We took off from Tech, and the route lead us past Spades Library at mile 2, then to a loop around Brookeside Park and back past Spades Library at mile 4.  The wonderful team at the library set up a water stop for the team!  We finished off the run with a lap around the track at Tech.

The weather was beautiful and everyone worked really hard.

Seniors - Lonavee, Linda, Lisa walked to and from the library - 2 miles!

Thank You to Spades Library for setting up a water stop for our team!

This is just one of the beautiful sites we ran by on Thursday.  The oldest tree in the city!

Some of our wonderful team leaders!
Tessie - Biked around to make sure no one got lost and everyone was safe.

Great job everyone!  Hard work pays off!  We can't wait to see this team cross the finish line.

Runners Forum to the Rescue!

As many of you know, we have been in search of shoe sponsorship and donations over the past few months.  In our search for any help we could get - Runners Forum stepped up to the plate and gave us a very generous 20 percent discount AND donated a pair of fabulous running socks to each student who is fitted for shoes.

THANK YOU RUNNERS FORUM

As the donations come in, we will be sending more team members to be fitted by the experts at Runners Forum.

Thanks a million for helping our team!

Why do you run?

Although it is sometimes hard to get started- there are so many reasons to get out the door and get the miles in.  Here are two of our favorite reasons for getting out the door.

1. Without a doubt, when you are done - you will be in a better mood!
2. It's fun when you have friends to run with who are aiming for a similiar goal.

Thursdays are my Favorite day of the Week!

Check out these pictures and videos and you'll understand why:

On Thursday we walked from Tech to the Canal and did a full loop around the canal.  The kids loved being on the canal.  "This would be a perfect place for a date" is what Bethany said as we made the loop. We really enjoyed spending time together and accomplishing the goal of 7 miles for the day.  Most of the kids did a run/walk today.  Shalonda decided she was going to run a block, walk a block - and she did just that for the entire 7 miles.

We are so proud of this crew!

Shalonda and Bethany having a great time on the canal

Thank you so much to Kitti's husband and daughter for setting up a water stop for us at mile 2 and 5!

Way to go Tyla!

Day 3 Practice!

Today's Practice was awesome!  We had a really great turn out.  We split the group up into three groups.

1. three mile group
2. four mile group
3. five mile group

The majority of the team did four miles.  We had three students, three teachers and two coaches do the full five.  We are really excited about what is to come!

Here are a few pictures and videos from the day!

We had a really amazing support team at a water stop along the way.  Thank you Melissa from Cottage Homes Neighborhood for supporting Team Legacy.  We really appreciated you guys cheering us on!

Jimmi rocked it out today!!  He did the full five miles.  The strategy for Jimmi today was a run/walk.... run two minutes, walk two minutes.  Half way through he was feeling good and decided he wanted to run three minutes, walk two.  He was a happy, proud guy at the end of the day.  Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment!

These girls worked so hard today, they put in four miles.  They might have been hurting a little bit along the way, but when they were finished, they were all smiles.  Determination is what I saw in these girls today.  Great job ladies!!  On the right side of the picture you will see our amazing pace leader!!

Bethany and Jaquisha

Annika

Great job Valerie and Courtney!!!  We are so happy you two are part of the team and can't wait to see you both cross that finish line.

Great day of running and walking today!  We are so proud of this team.  Thank you to everyone who continues to support us!!!

Day 2 Practice!

Team Photo Number 2!!

Thank you so much to our sponsor INHP for providing us with these wonderful training shirts!!!

Today's practice went really well.  We did four miles through Woodruff Place.  Us coaches were a little disappointed that we only had 6 kids, but we are hopeful once this bad weather and cold season turns around our numbers will go up!

The seniors were awesome today, they walked two miles and helped out at the water stop which was set up at mile three  for those participants who were doing the full four miles.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK INHP!!!

Interviews after our first day of practice! 3 Miles!!

This is Liza, she was a trooper on the first day of practice.  I am so excited to be working with her.

Here are a few of the other girls after practice, Bethany, Annika and Cece.  I had the privilege to run/walk with Cece today, and I am so proud of how hard she worked.  She definitely needed a lot of encouragement, but was very receptive to the support.

These videos are the first of many to come!  We will be taking videos along our journey in hopes that all of our supporters will follow our progress and cheer us on along the way!

This coming Thursday, we will be doing 4 miles.  We will start at Tech's campus and walk all around Woodruff Place.  Tessie's husband Kimball and their grandson will be at a water stop to cheer us on and keep us hydrated.  We love our cheerleaders!

First Practice!

On Thursday we had our first real practice with the group.  Since it was still icy out, we had to get our miles done inside a building on the Tech Campus.  We walked or ran 24 laps around the inside of the building, which was a grand total of 3 miles!  Most of the kids did a run/walk method.  They would run a lap or two and then walk one, until 24 laps were complete.

The kids worked really hard, and we coaches actually got to talk with them and get to know them a little better.  After practice I did some interviews with four of the kids and I will post that video tonight.

After practice it became more evident that we are in desperate need for a shoe donation for these kids.  We are currently seeking individual shoe sponsorships for each kid.  Each sponsorship is $90.00.  Please contact us if you would like to be a shoe sponsor or know someone else who might be interested.

If you plan to sponsor please make a check out to The "John H. Boner Community Center" and in the subject line write "Legacy Mini Shoe Sponsorship".

You may mail your check to:
